Macha Gharibian - New album "Mars" presentation

Pianist & singer, Macha Gharibian grew up in a family of musicians and began to play the piano at a very early age.

After a strong sound training in classical piano in Paris, she set off in 2005 to New York, where she discovered jazz and improvisational music under the guidance of Ralph Alessi, Jason Moran, Ravi Coltrane, Craig Taborn, Uri Caine. It was in New York that she discovered a talent for improvisation, crossed the bridge between classical music and jazz and began to compose.

Macha has written for little and big musical trainings, for film and theater as a composer and pianist.

While getting on tour with several French Artists of the Jazz and World Music scene, she soon starts to write taking her inspiration from the Armenian music repertoire, while her music bears the traces of different influences as she explores new territory to forge a profoundly personal musical and vocal style, at a crossroads between contemporary jazz and modern folk.

With “Mars” she has now created a realm of her own, bringing together voice and piano on stage and mixing her multiple influences, from jazz to world and folk music. For the French News Liberation, “Mars” was considered as one of the best surprises of 2013.

The Mars Album Quartet has perfomed at Paris Duc des Lombards, Ottawa Jazz Festival, New York Rockwood Music Hall, Paris New Morning, Café de la Danse, Constantine Dimajazz Festival (Algeria), RhinoJazz Festival, Nantes Pannonica, Festival Jazz N’Klezmer, Fête de l’Humanité, Rocher de Palmer…
